Signature campaign launched against the action of scrapping of panel for post of C&MD

To
The Honorable Prime Minister
Government of India
New Delhi

FAX NO: 23016857

Subject: Appointment of C&MD of ONGC

We the employees of ONGC and also the members of the Officers Association of Delhi, were shocked and upset over the recent action of the Government of India, in scrapping the Panel of CM&D of ONGC which was approved by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) and cleared by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

Today, ONGC is probably the only PSU Company of India that has a presence in more than dozen countries abroad and is recognized as a global giant ready for giant leap. This was given further impetus when one of its own Directors, Shri R.S Sharma was selected after a long time for the post of C&MD. The employees of ONGC have felt a renewed sense of belongingness and under his able leadership ONGC could find two major discoveries. His leadership has also been instrumental in enabling ONGC to arrest the production loss due to recent devastating floods at Hazira. His initiatives for the welfare of employees have been widely appreciated throughout the company. The organization climate had changed to one of optimism which requires to be sustained. Shri R.S Sharma had been selected by PESB only after it was satisfied that Shri Sharma was suitable on all the laid down criteria. We feel that such a decision is an insult to the employees of ONGC.

The employees express its deep concern and anguish at the decision taken by Government of India and also the recent reports of appointing a person from the private sector/outside ONGC. Such moves shall derail the process of development of the Oil and Gas sector as well as bring in uncertainty in the growth of ONGC.

The whole officer’s community of ONGC is of the opinion that only an internal candidate for the topmost post can do justice to the vast and diversified operations of ONGC as well as the future acquisitions in the Oil and Gas Sector.

We hereby appeal to the Government that it should review its decision and appoint an internal candidate duly selected immediately to the post of C&MD, ONGC.
