Association of Scientific & Technical
Officers (ASTO) Delhi , the officers association of ONGC,
Delhi Offices were shocked and upset over the recent the Action
of Government of India, of scrapping the Panel of CM&D
of ONGC which was approved by Public Enterprises Selection
Board (PESB) and cleared by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
Today, ONGC is one of the trans multinational
company of India and is probably the only company of India
that has a presence in more than dozen countries abroad and
is recognized as a global giant ready for giant leap. This
was given further impetus when one of its own Director was
selected after a long time for the post of C&MD, during
the golden jubilee year of ONGC. While acting as C&MD
in this auspicious time ONGC could find two major discoveries.
His able leadership made ONGC to contain the production loss
due to recent devastating floods of Hazira on LPG and other
petrochemical supplies from Hazira.
ASTO, Delhi expresses its deep concern on
the decision taken by Government of India and also the recent
reports of appointing a person from the private sector/outside.
Such moves shall derail the process of development of the
Oil and Gas sector as well as bring in uncertainty in ONGC
yet again. Sh. Sharma had been selected after PESB had interviewed
nearly a dozen technocrats and bureaucrats.
The whole officer’s community of ONGC
is of the opinion that only an internal candidate for the
topmost post can do justice to the vast and diversified operations
of ONGC as well as the future areas of Oil and Gas Sector
in which ONGC is proceeding.
It is made very clear; the action of Govt.
shall decide further course of action of the Association.
The Capital Market and the business community world over have
not appreciated this action of the Government of India.
ASTO. Delhi appeals to the Government that
it should review its decision and appoint an internal candidate
duly selected immediately to the post of C&MD, ONGC.
We have already appealed to our officers
community to stay calm and focused on the job, in the larger
interest of this organization as well as of the nation. However,
the Association will decide the further course of action,
on the next move/decision of the government of India, in this
respect.
